About This Place

Nestled in the heart of New York’s vibrant West Village, Menkoi Sato brings an authentic and soulful taste of Japan’s beloved ramen culture right to 7 Cornelia Street. This ramen restaurant is a must-visit destination for noodle lovers craving a bowl that marries warmth, depth, and meticulous craft. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by a lively yet cozy atmosphere filled with communal benches, encouraging both solo diners and groups to settle in comfortably and savor their experience.

Menkoi Sato’s menu is a treasure trove of rich, comforting ramen variations and Japanese-inspired dishes that excite both traditionalists and adventurous palates. The Spicy Miso Ramen 辣味增拉面 is a star offering, boasting a perfect balance of heat and umami that delivers a satisfying kick without overpowering the complex miso broth beneath. For vegetarians or those seeking lighter fare, the Vegetarian Miso Ramen and Vegetarian Spicy Ramen provide bold, thoughtfully layered flavors without sacrificing authenticity.

Highlighting the kitchen’s expertise, the Shoyu Signature is a refined, deeply savory soy sauce ramen brimming with chicken broth, ground pork, tender chashu slices, scallions, roasted seaweed, and a nuanced blend of sesame and pork back fat that coats your palate with every slurp. The broth’s richness and texture linger, creating an inviting warmth perfect for any season. Equally impressive is the Miso Ramen with Egg, where the silky soft-boiled egg adds a luscious creaminess that complements the hearty miso broth and fresh bean sprouts.

Beyond ramen bowls, Menkoi Sato offers standout side dishes like crispy Fried Chicken and fragrant Vegetarian Fried Rice, which pair wonderfully with a refreshing Yuzu Soda or one of their carefully curated Japanese sakes such as Medama Oyaji Junmai Ginjo. The fusion of flavors — from the vibrant spices in the Spicy Curry Ramen to the comforting savoriness of the Abura Soba — showcases a menu crafted to delight diverse tastes while honoring Japanese culinary traditions.

What truly elevates the Menkoi Sato dining experience is the attentive, friendly service that acknowledges each guest’s ramen journey. Diners like Myah Coyle praise the “authentic tasting ramen,” recalling their time in Japan, while Jesus Castillo highlights the quick, warm service combined with “rich flavor” and “fresh ingredients” that make this spot a standout. Though busy periods might mean hunting for a seat, communal benches foster a fun, social vibe that adds to the charm.

While some guests note moments where broth seasoning leans saltier or dishes carry more bean sprouts than expected, these minor quirks do little to overshadow the consistently hearty portions and satisfying complexity of flavors. Whether you’re warming up with a bowl of Tonkotsu Ramen during a chilly winter day or exploring the nuanced spice profile of Tan Tan Men, Menkoi Sato stands as a thoughtfully curated ramen haven in New York City’s dynamic food scene.

For those seeking an approachable yet refined ramen experience with genuine Japanese soul and a welcoming ambiance, Menkoi Sato is a flavorful journey not to miss.

Such a cool spot!! Workers are very nice and the food comes out fast. The most authentic tasting ramen I’ve had since visiting Japan

Second time coming here over the last 2 years of visiting. First time was better, this time was mid. The shoyu (basic) ramen was waaaaaay too salty, although tasty and yummy. The curry chicken was too spicy and also quite salty! There was a lot of bean sprouts mixed into the noodles, so it feels like you get less noodles versus the other bowls. They do have a policy that it is one order per person at least. So order appetizers if you can’t finish one bowl. They are generous portions. Service amazing and friendly.

Fun atmosphere with lots of benches around the store. Might be hard to grab a spot when it’s busy. Prices are very reasonable and orders come out pretty fast. Ramen was decent — the ingredients didn’t work as well as I expected, but the broth was fine and the portion sizes are very large and filling.

I stopped by this ramen spot around 3pm and had a great experience. The service was friendly and quick, and the ramen was genuinely very good—rich flavor, fresh ingredients, and super satisfying. I’ll definitely be coming back to try more items on the menu. Highly recommend if you’re craving quality ramen!
